Take your camera out at golden hour

The hour after sunrise and before sunset, when the light runs low and warm.

Fieldtrip is an app for photographers: walks to join, a log of every shot and roll, and the basics, taught well. We’re designing it now, for iOS and Android, starting in New York.

What do you shoot? Optional

We’ll write when there’s something to try.

The sun’s height over New York today, midnight to midnight. Golden hour in bold.

The first version

Digital or film, phone or rangefinder: every camera is welcome, and the app treats them all the same way.

  • Photo walks

Follow a walk another photographer mapped, record your own as you shoot, and choose who sees it: everyone, people with the link, or only you.

  • A log of every shot

Digital photos arrive with their camera, lens and settings. Film rolls arrive from your lab’s scan folder, with the stock, lab and scanner noted.

  • Film in stock, mapped

Which shops in New York have the film you want, kept up to date.

  • Camera 101

How to choose a first camera and how to start taking good pictures, explained plainly by a photographer, before anyone mentions upgrades.

Why I’m building it

I’m Amanda, a photographer in New York. I shoot digital and film, and to me photography is a practice: you walk, you look closely, and you learn from what you notice.

Music has a path for every level: lessons, bands, open mics. Photography deserves one too. Fieldtrip is my attempt: walks to join, people to learn from, and a record of your work.
